Grace Esther Gittelman is a Queer Korean Jewish artist based in Chicago, Illinois. They make functional and sculptural ceramics that are enriched with Korean tradition, yet challenge the conventions of authenticity. Grace’s ceramic work often centers around their food identity, and analyzes their relationship with their ancestry through twisting standards of materiality. The artist uses subtle humor to show tradition must grow and change in order for it to survive.

Grace lives in Chicago, IL and sells intentionally made functional and sculptural ceramic ware. They receive commissions and exhibit their ceramic sculpture on a case by case basis.

Grace attended School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with their Bachelor in Fine Arts in 2020. In the summer of 2022 they attended Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, Maine and ACRE Residency in Steuben, Wisconsin. In Fall of 2022 they attended Oxbow School of Art’s month-long Longform Residency with the Longform Scholarship. Since then they have been an Emmanuel College Artist in Residence and a fellow at The Hambidge Center.
